Winchburgh Marina prepped for planning scrutiny
July 1 2019
Winchburgh Developments and Scottish Canals have firmed up their plans for a new marina at Winchburgh following an agreement on terms to proceed with a range of new berths and moorings at the Union Canal.
Situated within the heart of the proposed New Town the marina will be connected to nearby Daisy Park by way of a footbridge as well as connections to an existing network of paths, cycle routes and towpaths.
John Hamilton, CEO of Winchburgh Developments, said: “The new marina is an important part of the masterplan for Winchburgh, providing new leisure facilities for the local community and visitors to enjoy. It will also feature a new commercial space suitable for restaurant and café facilities.”
Katie Hughes, estates director for Scottish Canals, added: “Improved access to the canal ensures that people will be able to take the best advantage of the waterways and towpaths that offer a range of leisure facilities including boating, cycling, walking, running and fishing.”
The marina, designed by michael Laird Architects, is expected to open by the end of 2021 subject to a successful planning application later this year. When complete it will sit at the heart of a community of 3,450 new homes spread across 352 hectares.
