Aberdeen Art Gallery will formally reopen to the public on 2 November following a significant redevelopment at the hands of Hoskins Architects, the city council has confirmed.

Since 2015 the A-listed Schoolhill complex, including the Cowdray Hall and Remembrance Hall, has been subject to extensive remodelling to form a key attraction within the city centre masterplan by building on its existing character while attracting new audiences.

Councillor Marie Boulton commented: "The transformation of Aberdeen Art Gallery is a tremendous civic project. The countdown to the re-opening of one of the city's most-loved buildings has begun and soon visitors will be able to experience for themselves the benefits of this once-in-a-lifetime transformation, creating a venue that is accessible to all and designed with the needs of all visitors in mind.

When it re-opens on 2 November, people are sure to fall in love all over again with this beautiful building and the rich collection which belongs to each and every one of us in Aberdeen."

The £34.6m project entailed an extensive overhaul of the external fabric together with a new exhibition and display galleries overseen by Studioarc, together with improved visitor facilities – including level access and opening up vistas from the second floor

As a consequence, the number of items on display will jump from 300 to over 1,000, made possible by a new upper level for hosting touring exhibitions.
