Glasgow’s office pipeline extended by Carrick Quay approval

Glasgow City Council has awarded planning in principle for 290,000sq/ft of grade A office space on the Broomielaw spearheaded by the Soller Group.

Carrick Square has been designed by Mosaic Architecture + Design to occupy a car park bounded by Carrick Street and Brown Street near Atlantic Quay, forming a new public plaza at the foot of the 14-storey tower.

Mosaic director Neil Haining said: “The building’s massing is manipulated in response to its immediate context; in particular the existing office building to the south, creating the opportunity for southern aspects from the building.

“The mass is then further subdivided to create a series of stepped terraces which enables a unique commercial space within the city. Gable ends are articulated to form two separate planes – one solid, one more transparent – allowing the building to increase in scale towards the north.”

Adopting a U-shaped plan the development will wrap around a central lightwell backing onto 200 Broomielaw with south facing terraces included to maximise views and light.
