Aberdeen to commence ‘Hall of Heroes’ museum revamp

Aberdeen City Council is to kick-start renovation of the A-listed provost Skene’s House as a new visitor attraction next month as part of efforts to revitalise the city centre.

The council’s own in-house building team will oversee a raft of repairs including re-slating the roof and replacing rotten timbers to allow a full internal fit-out to take place, with delivery taking part in tandem with the renewal of Union Terrace Gardens and a relaunch of Aberdeen Art Gallery.

Upon completion the former home will include a Hall of Heroes display, documenting a line-up of famous faces from the region including Annie Lennox and Denis Law.

Council co-leader councillor Douglas Lumsden commented: “Provost Skene’s House has been enjoying new exposure at the heart of Marischal Square and will now undergo its own transformation.

“An essential first step is repairing and upgrading the building’s fabric so that we can secure another jewel in our cultural crown for generations to come.”

The £3.8m project is expected to complete by autumn 2020.
