Technology-enabled homes earmarked for former Blantyre school

South Lanarkshire Council has lodged plans to build 45 homes together with a community and care facility at the former St Joseph’s Primary School in Blantyre.

This plan calls for the erection of terraced houses and three blocks of flats together with a two storey community care facility along the northwestern edge of the brownfield site, forming an ‘avenue’ to connect Glasgow Road with Park Lane in the process.

In a statement of intent, the authority wrote: “This housing will be technology-enabled providing tailored support for their occupants' care needs and supported by services within the care facility. Consequently, the proximity of the housing to the facility is an important aspect of how care is delivered and developed for the occupants.

“The gap site on Glasgow Rd. will be filled with a three storey development of technology-enabled flats accessed from Glasgow Road.  This will help maintain the scale of the main street, mark the entrance to the ‘avenue’ and provide a sense of enclosure to the areas behind it.”

Technology enabled homes enable ambient monitoring of occupants and the building itself to prolong independent living.
