Planning permission has been granted for Sheppard Robson’s stem cell research centre in Edinburgh's Bioquarter, a newly formed research community around the Royal Infirmary in Little France.  

The £59 million Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine aims to attract scientists from across the world by providing facilities to develop new approaches towards prevention and treatment of debilitating diseases through innovative research with stem cells.

Design is influenced by the unique properties inherent to these cells, translating them into architecture by way of a central support area (the stem cell), linked via a series of connecting bridges (the arteries) to laboratory buildings (the tissue).

These laboratory buildings provide a strong frontage to Little France Drive, encasing a central atrium space and water feature designed as flexible meeting area.  Vertical and horizontal façade treatment defines wings of laboratory space.
