655-home Cammo Estate build wins Edinburgh Council backing

Edinburgh City Council has given the go ahead to a 655-home development at Cammo Estate, to be delivered by CALA Homes and David Wilson Homes.

The development, designed by EMA Architects, includes 164  affordable homes in a mix of apartments, terraced homes, colonies as well as detached family homes.

A spokesperson said: "We fully understand how important the junctions at Maybury and Barnton are and traffic was a key concern for many people at the outset."

Over a third of the development has been allocated for parkland and tree planting on top of a half kilometre 20-metre wide green corridor at Maybury Avenue which will introduce a segregated cycle and footpath detached from Maybury Road.

Further routes will connect to the land at West Craigs, and as part of that development connect onwards to the Gyle and Edinburgh Park.

Affordable housing will be delivered during the initial phase of development

The distribution road on that looks designed to do at 60 with those huge sweeping curves and open vistas, and is basically a cul-de-sac!?!
Designing Streets anyone?
S’pose the queue of cars trying to get out the scheme may encourage people to walk north and hop a bus.Routes south to the tram look limited though.

"Designing Streets"
***Voted the document most ignored by roads officers in Scotland for 10 years running.***
