Fresh pitch sways planners after Scone apartments fell flat
March 14 2019
Juniper Residential have earned consent for a revised retirement complex at Angus Road, Scone, after withdrawing an earlier submission to Perth & Kinross Council last year.
The new scheme reduces the number of apartments on offer from 55 to 51 while introducing a more traditional pitched roof in response to negative feedback received during a public consultation.
Again, designed by the ID Partnership the project has been purpose-built for the over 55’s with wheelchair access and facilities for people with visual impairments forming an integral part of the design, together with consideration of levels, colours, lighting and surface finishes.
Explaining their revised approach the architects wrote: “… concerns were raised regarding the impact of the building against the backdrop of the surrounding houses. In order to address these concerns the elevational treatment was changed to incorporate the use of a trabeated structure to reduce the scale and massing of the proposal. Furthermore, following negative comments regarding a flat roof design, the roof was changed to a mansard which reflects the appearance of a pitched roof whilst lowering the overall height.”
The new homes take the place of The Wheel Inn, which will be demolished.
