Rising pupil numbers prompt Scotstoun Primary extension
March 14 2019
Glasgow City Council have authored plans to extend Scotstoun Primary School, adding to an existing annexe to accommodate a growing school roll.
Located within a conservation area the school wil pick up the line of existing brickwork to deliver a low-pitched central classroom block punctuated by a double volume gym hall with large windows opening out onto Duncan Avenue.
In a statement setting out their architectural response the council wrote: “Designed to have all classrooms orientated north, each new teaching space will benefit from an open aspect and direct access to the pitch.
“The single storey classroom block ensures that the existing outlook is maintained from the main school building, rising to a double height block on Duncan Avenue, creating a sense of scale to complement the existing parish school.”
A large rooflight will be inserted into the main breakout space to afford views back to the historic main building.
