LBA win planning for Dalkeith ‘secret garden’ home
March 14 2019
LBA has won planning consent from Midlothian Council to build a ‘secret garden’ home within the Eskbank and Ironmills conservation of Dalkeith.
The three-bedroom property will sit discreetly within the grounds of the C-listed Mayfield Lodge, offering a contemporary residence among garden grounds.
Sleeping and living accommodation are joined by a hallway opening out onto the rear courtyard, serving as an extension to the living space itself with a dual-sided fireplace and built-in snug.
Further courtyard spaces provide a mix of private gardens and social spaces. Angled timber cladding woven with foliage wraps the facades of these spaces, providing lush backdrop views from interior spaces.
Associate Brian Tobin said “This site called for a very specific design approach which challenged a lot of planning norms within the conservation area. We believe this led us to an imaginative response to building on a backland site and hope to push it forward with the purchase of the site.”
The plot of land is currently for sale via Savills.

Very nice project though, even if my favourite thing is the puppy in the first image...
