Stirling student residences establish station gateway

Michael Laird Architects have returned to Stirling’s Goosecroft Road with plans to build an additional 106 student bedrooms adjoining an earlier phase of 53 affordable homes.
Located opposite the main railway station the KR Developments project will rejuvenate a prominent brownfield plot, reinvigorating the streetscape with a reception area, gym, lounge, study area.
Outlining their approach the architects wrote: “The main entrance and amenity space to the ground floor with larger areas of glazing will provide activation to the street. Pends either side of the site will allow pedestrian and vehicular access to the rear of the site thus providing rights of access from neighbouring plots.
“The rear element which extends to the West of the site is more restrained in elevational treatment with light grey render and bands at each level continuing those visible to Goosecroft Road.
“A single storey element projecting north towards a landscaped courtyard provides additional student amenity. This will activate the space and provide a quiet courtyard within the city centre.”
Falling into step behind the established architectural language of the earlier scheme the latest phase adopts a dark grey brick frame with lighter grey panels for contrast.
