Hamilton home earmarked for 11 flat development

DTA architects have tabled proposals to build 11 flats on the site of an existing detached home at Carlisle Road, Hamilton, part of a densification of land use for the South Lanarkshire town.

Superceding an earlier approval with a more contemporary design the latest proposals employ a palette of brick but has drawn criticism as an ‘overdevelopment’ of the suburban site.

One objector remarked: “The number of flats proposed is an overdevelopment of the site. The appearance of the proposed building as shown is not in keeping with the type of residential properties in the surrounding area. Particularly flat roofing and balconies.

“The number and proposed size of the balconies facing directly onto Carlisle Road look excessive and would detract from the surrounding area.”

Premier Inn is to build a new 96-bedroom hotel and restaurant further along the A72.

It's no more jarring than the gargantuan home of a well-known motor magnate, a few doors down. Plus, that bungalow had looked tired since the Nineties, so it's not much of a loss to the local environment.

I actually like it. I was hoping for a flat roof in order to limit the elevation. The choice of stone will be the defining factor. I am curious to know how many car spaces are planned for since now every family has at least two cars. The area is congested with parking and he last thing needed is people parking in the side streets......
