City of Edinburgh planners have lent their approval to a mixed-use makeover of The Royal Hospital for Sick Children by Downing.
Fletcher Joseph Architects have been commissioned to oversee the masterplan which will see the B-listed main building receive a sensitive refurbishment with new build residential blocks built in the grounds.
In the process this will create a blend of 95 private properties, 31 affordable homes and a 323 bed student accommodation block with some commercial and community usage also accounted for.
In a practice statement the architects wrote: “The fundamental strategy seeks to preserve and enhance the existing building and associated setting and compliment these with high-quality areas of public realm and sympathetic new development.”
