McAleer & Rushe has secured the contract to build a 300-bed Maldron branded hotel and ancillary office development in Glasgow city centre at the junction of Renfrew and Renfield Streets.
Again faced in brickwork, cast stone and bronze effect rainscreen panels the amended designs by Consarc Design Group include a run of vertical corner windows and a setback along the Renfrew Street elevation.
Plans to build a 446-bed student block on an adjacent site have also been dropped in favour of a 100,000sq/ft office component.
Commenting on the Glasgow scheme, as well as a sister Birmingham project, Stephen Surphlis, property director, at McAleer & Rushe said: “Glasgow has one of the fastest growing economies in the UK and Birmingham continues to secure a range of inward investment projects, with the opening of the HS2 high-speed rail network in 2026.
“We’ve been encouraged by the support shown by both Local Authorities in processing the applications in a professional and timely manner allowing construction works to commence in the coming months and we look forward to working with in partnership with Dalata once again.
Construction of the four-star hotel is expected to get underway in the summer with completion not expected until 2022.
