Foster & Partners take on stalled Haymarket scheme

Foster & Partners have picked up the baton from Richard Murphy Architects to develop revised plans for a significant mixed-use scheme at Haymarket, Edinburgh.

This follows the summer sale of the site last year by Interserve and Tiger Developments to M&G Real Estate for £49.1m, with plans to draw up revised proposals for an unspecified mix of hotels, offices, retail, leisure, bars and restaurants.

A spokesperson for M&G said: “We can confirm that we are in the early stages of preparing our proposals for the Haymarket development and look forward to sharing them in due course.”

Extensive groundworks have already been completed at the sprawling gap-site in readiness for construction, notably strengthening works to railway tunnels which bisect the site.

A public consultation is now underway for the revised plans ahead of a detailed planning application being submitted.
