MV Fingal brings five-star glamour to the Port of Leith
January 11 2019
The Royal Yacht Britannia have pushed the boat out for a £5m refit of former Northern Lighthouse Board Ship MV Fingal to form 23 cabins, a dining space and entertainment area permanently berthed in the Port of Leith.
Sister ship to The Royal yacht Britannia the floating hotel affords guests a unique experience marries industrial heritage with contemporary luxury, maintaining the ships idiosyncratic lines and spaces.
As such bespoke joinery has been specified to hug the contours of the interior. Each guest cabin is themed on a specific Stevenson Lighthouse with stitched headboards displaying sea maps accompanied by a colour palette of soft green, heather and rich burgundy with brass accents.
A glass lift intended to resemble a lighthouse top dominates the reception area with walls lined by rippled sycamore fiddleback. This leads onto the former bridge deck which has been converted to a bar beneath a sparkling ceiling.
Down in the former hold meanwhile a ballroom can be reached by a sweeping spiral stair, providing a unique space for private dining and events.
The redesign of MV Fingal was overseen by the Pedley Group.
