Peel hold quay to success at Glasgow Harbour
August 11 2008
Fresh perspectives of Chapman Taylor's Meadowside Quay for Peel Holdings have been released following cancellation of the mooted "super casino". The crassly overblown lump of classical revivalism would have housed 3,770sq/m of casino, leisure and retail floor space. Fortunately Peels attempt to foist a Trafford Centre style death upon the Clyde has been deservedly binned.Instead the Glasgow Harbour Commercial quarter will accommodate a 30 floor residential tower upon restaurant plinth fronting a major public space at the confluence of the Clyde and Kelvin. Walks radiate out from here to connect with wider city, Zaha Hadid’s Transport Museum and the Tall Ship. Incorporated to the scheme will be a split level retail mall, 10 screen cinema, 5 star hotel and multi Storey car parking.
