Ballater School reimagined as affordable housing
January 7 2019
Ian Rodger Architects have submitted revised plans on behalf of Grampian Housing Association to convert the C-listed Ballater School into 24 affordable homes.
The amendments pertain to an October 2018 approval and are geared toward enhancing the utilisation of access points off School Lane, as well as the refurbishment of two existing schoolhouses and conversion of the main school building to form 10 flats.
A further 11 new build flats and one house are also proposed to be built on the site of numerous ancillary buildings.
In a statement the architects wrote: “The proposal sees the formation of 3no. new building ‘blocks’, in separate corners of the site. All the ‘New Builds’ are designed using the same materials in a similar arrangement; render to their North elevations and sides, with horizontal timber cladding to their South elevations. Slate will be used on all roofs to match the existing school buildings.”
Existing granite boundary walls will also be repaired with copes and piers retained.
