Cairngorms National Park HQ reimagined
November 16 2018
Moxon Architects have completed a significant reconfiguration and extension of the Cairngorms National Park Authority headquarters in the Grantown-on-Spey conservation area.
Delivered on behalf of the Reidhaven Estate the additions centre on a new public entrance sandwiched between the original 19th century building and a contemporary wing providing additional open plan office space and meeting rooms.
Built with Cross Laminated Timber and natural European larch with pleated zinc and frameless glazing this mew wing houses a mix of formal and informal meeting spaces and breakout areas – all of which can be readily reconfigured by way of moveable timber-clad screens.
Moxon director Ben Addy commented: “Our guiding principle was to create an innovative addition to the CNPA’s historic headquarters, offering an inviting new public entrance and contemporary offices for staff. The contemporary massing finds a place within the townscape hierarchy suitable for a headquarters building, whilst the carefully selected materials will weather over time, setting the building into its context.”
The revamped headquarters provides space for an additional 30 staff, enabling the park authority to remain in the town.

Town full of stone houses -- lets stick in a timber shed and hope for the best.
Quick, bodge it and scarper.
