Glenboig Community Centre embraces 7 Lochs Wetland Park
June 25 2018
Elder & Cannon Architects have drafted plans for the refurbishment and extension of an existing community centre in Glenboig, North Lanarkshire, to introduce a new café, soft play area, gym and offices.
This ‘light touch’ approach will retain the full structure of the existing building with internal remodelling allowing a new rooflit circulation spine to be inserted alongside more flexible halls through use of a full-width folding partition.
Frontages to the rear will be opened up through creation of a loch facing café and gym extension, with full height curtain walling serving to visually integrate the building with surrounding 7 Lochs Wetland Park.
In a statement the practice observed: “The design of the front facade retains the existing roof form as far as possible in order that the existing roof structure can be reused. A superior cladding in terms of copper or zinc, unifies the frontage into a crisp, modern feature, with large glazed windows to the shop and entry space making the building more transparent and inviting.
Previous plans to overhaul the community centre were drawn up by GCA back in 2009.

This is good. Is it replacing the 1980s brick building? It was on the water which made the building but unappealing otherwise.
