Developer sweetens housing vision with ‘country park’ aspiration
June 15 2018
North Lanarkshire Council are considering plans for a major ‘country park’ and 2,600 homes on a 600-acre site off the M8 corridor near Airdrie, with up to 40% of all properties classed as affordable.
A Barton Willmore masterplan includes provision for a shop, retail, pub, hotel, schools and leisure facilities, in a scheme being marketed as EuroPark, a reference to its proximity to the EuroCentral business park.
Led by Orchard Brae the extensive use of open space and parkland is being championed as the fabric connecting a series of planned ‘villages’ to the Monkland Canal and Calder Water. Existing woodland at Faskine and Woodhall will be retained as part of this work.
Homes will be built across four separate character areas, each taking a different approach to built form, landscape and building design.
