Scottish Rugby show their hand in Murrayfield expansion
Scottish Rugby has filed for planning permission to build a new Holmes Miller designed pitch at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, with a maximum capacity of 7,800.

Transforming existing training pitches the move will see a new 3G surface and covered spectator stands erected around all four sides of the ground, which could see action as early as 2019.

Scottish Rugby’s chief operating officer Dominic McKay, said: “After many years of exhausting all the potential stadium and playing ground options for Edinburgh in the local area, we have taken the initiative and will be investing ourselves to develop a venue that can help the team to grow and provide a great spectator experience.

“We are fortunate to have space within the BT Murrayfield campus to comfortably accommodate this planned new facility and retain practice pitches for all elements of rugby.”

Great news for Edinburgh Rugby. Hopefully the new stands will look a little more permanent and protected though.
