Thenue push east end homes
TheNue Housing Association and Assist Architects have teamed up to deliver 12 new flats on Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow, replacing an unsafe tenement building.

This is proposed to be demolished and replaced with a six-storey infill the project will rise from a dark brick base and is topped by a metal mansard roof.

Intervening levels are split horizontally by a glazed stairwell and elevator with horizontal bands of brick aligning with neighbouring properties.

A basement plant room will include a dedicated mobility scooter store.

I take it the tenement has been allowed to become unsafe through neglect?

They should have just rebuilt the tenement- the new proposal is a stinker!

So we don't even have to wait for one of those mysteriously coincidental fires to finish this one off!

Oh dear! That is a risibly bad scheme which pays zero attention to its context.

The original tenement is in the Bridgeton Cross Conservation Area so at the very least why is there not an effort to retain the sandstone facade or, if that is not feasible, have a sandstone elevation to the street which picks up on the characteristics, rhythms, proportion and datums of the surrounding tenements? Otherwise, how does this proposal preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area? Is that not what Glasgow City Council policy requires?

God knows that there is precious little left of the original built heritage at Bridgeton Cross so it is most unfortunate indeed that this is the second pre1919 tenement to go in recent years…

This proposal is simply architectural incompetence. Why do Urban Realm continue to give publicity to such dross. Both Assist and TheNeu should be embarrassed.

#7 Aye pretty abysmal scheme from top to bottom in terms of layout & compliance... so yeah will probably be at least a finalist for SP :D
