Campbeltown back in the picture
April 20 2018
Campbeltown Picture House has been officially reopened following a full restoration undertaken by Burrell Foley Fischer to bring back its full Edwardian splendor.Built in 1913 as one of the UK’s first purpose-built cinemas the A-listed art nouveau venue is distinguished by its distinctive interior, styled on a European courtyard, intended to help transport audiences from their daily lives.
Painstaking restoration work saw two plasterwork buildings at either side of the main auditorium returned to their former glory together with a blue sky ceiling with moving white clouds projected across it.
The £3.5m project was completed by Corramore Construction and includes the latest digital projection technology within its historic fabric together with a second screen, café and education facilities.

The clouds are painted, not projected, and don’t move.

Great news. Recently visited the art deco Birks cinema in Aberfeldy which has also been sensitively restored.
