Scottish participation at 2018 Venice architecture biennale confirmed

Scotland is to be represented at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale with The Happenstance, described as an exploration of how young people respond to this year’s theme of Freespace - the idea of reclaiming unused and underutilised locations.A collaboration between architects and artists the Venice venture will see a ‘living library of ideas’ set up in the Palazzo Zenobio from 26 May to 25 November, supported by an exhibition, live workshops and discussions.
Curated by Waveparticle the showcase will outline what can be built by mapping connections between demands and resources and is to be delivered in partnership with the Scottish government, British Council, A+DS and Creative Scotland.
Jim MacDonald, chief executive of A&DS said: “With its focus on empowering young people through design, we are all very excited by a project which will not only enrich the Biennale but also engage audiences across Scotland through a celebration of the next generation.”
Architects participating in this year’s event are Fergus Purdie, Baxendale, Austin-Smith:Lord and Stallan-Brand.
