Race for gold at athletes village

The search is on for a developer to plan Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games athletes village.Glasgow City Council have invited developers to submit proposals for the £200 million scheme in Dalmarnock. The scheme will provide accommodation and facilities for 6,500 athletes, bequeathing a legacy of some 1,000 homes to the district in the Games aftermath.
GCC are seeking a village that is “carefully designed, of the highest environmental standards and built to become a highly desirable new residential neighbourhood within Glasgow’s east end”.
The winning bidder will also be responsible for designing complimentary shopping, entertainment and media provision.
