Two tower blocks at 12 Riverford Rd and 21 Riverbank St were reduced to rubble Saturday in a controlled demolition carried out by Glasgow Housing Association and Coleman & Co. With the site cleared process of demolition will switch to the adjacent 124 and 142 Shawbridge St which currently lie vacant. The twin 23 floor slabs had dominated the Shawbridge corridor for 44 years but following an appraisal of Glasgow’s public housing stock, these were deemed surplus to requirements. The site is being masterplanned by GHA to accommodate new low rise housing.
