£5.7m Highland creative hub gets underway
December 27 2017
Wasps Artists Studios have begun work on a £5.7m Highland creative hub by transforming former Inverness school buildings into a new home for artists and creatives.Kirsten Body, a member of the local arts steering group, commented: “I'm really keen to see this new hub as a place that caters for events, provides networking opportunities as well as a gallery space for emergent contemporary artists to showcase their work and take risks. The Midmills building has huge potential to function as a production centre and true meeting place highlighting the wealth of creative talent from our area.”
Robertson Northern and LDN will begin work to convert the Midmills buildings, formerly utilised by Inverness College, early next year for completion by the summer.
At this time the former school will house affordable workspaces for 39 individual artists and crafts people. If successful this could be followed by an exhibition, performance and events space at a later date, in addition to further 54 workshops, a cafe and offices.
