Inverness social housing takes shape
Work to deliver 16 affordable homes and a ground floor commercial unit in Inverness city centre is in full swing with William Gray Construction on-site at the £5m development, scheduled to complete by winter 2018.

Raining’s Stairs has been designed by Threesixty Architecture on behalf of Highland Housing Alliance, Highland Council and Ark Estates on am elevated brownfield site accessible from an historic passage connecting the Crown area to the city centre.

In a statement the architects wrote: “The topography of the site and existing stairs have been analysed and utilised to provide access to the development whilst also helping to improve and define the public route and also introduce some interpretation/public art. The almost unique location of the site allows the opportunity to create a very special environment and, we believe, presents an exemplar for modern living in the centre of the city.”

Faced in steel wall and roof cladding together with stone and timber cladding the properties have been conceived as a modern invocation of local building styles.
Completion is expected by winter 2018
