GHA breathe new life into Dundasvale
July 17 2008
Three towers of 24 floors at Dundasvale Court are currently having “Secured by Design” front doors installed in a project overseen by 3DReid Architects and Wates Construction for Glasgow Housing Association. The doors are designed in conjunction with the police and fire service and have already proved their worth their worth earlier this year at a tower block in Curle Street, Whiteinch. Here a potentially deadly fire was stopped in its tracks, potentially saving many lives.
In addition double glazing is being installed throughout along with over cladding to the towers façade. These improvements not only provide extra insulation, reducing tenants heating bills, but also improve the appearance of the building. Warmer tones certainly lift the mood in a depressing corner of the city centre but it remains to be seen how well a render finish will weather on a highly exposed tower.
This program forms part of a wider £62 million investment program from GHA which sees 59 multi-storey blocks from across Glasgow receiving overcladding works.
