Standardised school roll out continues with Edinburgh extension
October 10 2017
Scott Brownrigg have filed plans for the latest addition to Edinburgh’s schools estate with an extension to Davidson’s Mains Primary.Part of the council’s rising rolls programme, designed to meet the challenges posed by increasing numbers of primary school pupils, with eight classrooms being fast tracked for delivery by August 2018.
Finished with fibre cement wall cladding with accent colours chosen to accentuate regular window openings the classroom block follows Scott Bronrigg’s ‘Optimum Schools’ model which seeks to develop efficiencies in standardization and design.
In a statement the architects wrote: “Efficiency savings can be made in cost and programme whilst ensuring that the school buildings can be individual, tailored to individual sites and settings and meet school-specific user requirements in full.”
A muted base level will reach out directly to the playground with upper level classrooms opening out to the underside of a pitched roof.

Not too much effort (or dosh) wasted on the external environment here.....but it's only kids eh? I'm sure they'll really appreciate the subtleties of grey accent cladding under grey skies
