Thenue Housing are to press ahead with a £9.3m residential development in Glasgow’s east end comprising 49 flats at the junction of London Road and Monteith Row.Scheduled for delivery in 2019 the properties will be centred on the B-listed Monteith Hotel, latterly used as a hostel, which is set to be converted to six apartments - alongside three and four storey new build elements overseen by Anderson Bell Christie.
Karen Finlayson, property services manager (development) at Thenue, commented: “The Monteith Hotel development is an exciting project which preserves a great city building yet turns it into modern, energy efficient homes in the east end.
“It is wonderful that a building with such a rich historical connection to the city is being given a new lease of life.”
The scheme will provide flats for social rent and 10 supported accommodation units for hostel residents as part of three delivery phases. This would see replacement accommodation built in the first instance prior to refurbishment of the hotel and ultimately infill of the north-western end of the city block.
