Tenants slide into Glasgow’s newest student housing development
September 15 2017
Student accommodation provider True Living has welcomed residents to its latest development, a £45m complex of housing 589 en-suite bedrooms in Finnieston, Glasgow. The Kelvinhaugh Street build distinguishes itself from rival developments by way of a helter-skelter slide inspired by Google’s offices, offering a quick exit for those running late for lessons.
Other on-site amenities include swings, a sound proofed music caravan, cinema, library, café, gym and outdoor sports pitch, providing all the facilities a student could want bar a pub – frowned upon by university authorities.
Marc Carter, managing director at true remarked: “Studying at university is such an important time in life and we are committed to supporting our residents in getting the very best from the experience, starting with first-class accommodation, but more importantly extending to the inclusive, family-like community we are creating here.”
Delivered by KKA Architects and Ogilvie Construction, based on initial designs prepared by ICA, the modular build was shipped in from China as part of a prefabrication push to trim build times and improve performance.
True plans to begin work on a second site at New City Road, Cowcaddens, early next year in readiness for the start of term in September 2019. Also delivered by KKA it builds on an approved Elder & Cannon scheme by adding an additional floor.

It is the usual drab for student accom but needs must in Glasgow!! I must say, this development is far nicer than the others that have been fired up in this area. The pre-fab was remarkably quick (I see it every day) and has caused far less disruption to the surrounding area. If you compare this to the one at Partick Station the materials and external facade are far superior.
