Hackney Council green lights GRAS garden extension
August 4 2017
GRAS Architects have been awarded planning consent for a two-bedroom extension to a London flat to provide an extended living space and additional bedroom.Designed to maximise the qualities of light and space the extension employs a palette of white oiled timber, marble, exposed red brick, pale sandstone and accent features in warm dark wood, chrome and black polished metal.
Outlining their intent the practice wrote: “This Victorian garden flat will be reconfigured and extended, to convert a previously dark, segmented property into a light and spacious modern family home. The kitchen, living and dining area is made open plan to maximise the sense of spaciousness and to enjoy a direct relationship with the atrium and private garden.
“The restrained nature of the material palette complements the simplicity of the spaces. To achieve clean lines, all of the new supporting steelwork is fully concealed within the thickness of the building fabric.”
The current terraced property sits within the South Hackney conservation area.
