Fife Council lodge plans for £4.5m Kirkcaldy Primary School extension
August 3 2017
Fife Council’s property services department is to extend Capshard Primary School, Kirkcaldy, with the addition of a new nursery wing to accommodate a maximum of 160 children, providing a new community room and associated facilities as well as two additional classrooms in the process.Outlining their design solution Fife Council observed: “The main entrance which serves both the nursery and community space has been signified with the use of a roof canopy and panel of western red cedar either side of the automatic sliding entrance doors.
“To all the elevations there is a simple mix of materials which includes panels of red multi facing brickwork, red multi brick base course throughout, western red cedar panels, white render, dark grey window frames and roof edge detailing.
“These have been chosen to be complementary to the existing school and neighbourhood whilst displaying a positive modern appearance befitting to this new extension.”
The expansion has been commissioned in an effort to help meet government targets to improve provision of early learning and childcare by 2020.
Work could get underway by September for completion in December 2018.
