Edinburgh Printmakers mark start on-site
June 22 2017
Work has begun on the delivery of a £12.3m centre for printmaking and the creative industry in Edinburgh following conclusion of a successful fundraising drive.Housed within the C-listed former Castle Mill Works Edinburgh Printmakers will see Page\Park overhaul the disused industrial buildings to form galleries, a studio, printmaking workshop and a café, forming a focal point for the burgeoning Fountainbridge district in the process.
When completed in spring 2019 the galleries will play host to permanent artwork, drawing visitors in from Dundee Street by opening views inside past the restored brick shell. This ‘shop window’ will be joined by a new arcade passing the gallery frontage toward a south facing café/conservatory overlooking the gardens.
Facilities will include 3D printing, laser cutting and digital printing as well as a studio apartment for an artist in residence.

A good start - let's hope the view will include some completed buildings on the India Quay side. Does anyone know if/when the 'masterplan' is to be realised? Why do all these things take so much longer in Edinburgh (and on a derelict site too)? How very different from Manchester where everything seems to happen overnight (but not always to good effect)!

Good to see some quality in this neck of the woods. Fountainbridge is quickly turning into an architectural horror storey.
