Home Group to move on-site with 140 Pollokshields homes

Glasgow City Council has given its approval to the delivery of 140 new homes for social rent in Pollokshields, taking the place of a redundant gas works.

The £20m project off Maxwell Road is being delivered by Home Group in partnership with the council to offer a mix of flats, houses and cottage flats.

AS Homes MD Paul Kelly, said: “Pollokshields is an area of Glasgow which badly needs affordable homes for social rental, so we were delighted to receive planning permission for this development. The added benefit is that it will bring this long-term empty site back into use, delivering a major economic boost and creating new jobs for local people in the process. We plan to be on site within the next month.”

Designed by George Buchanan Architects the scheme will deliver air-tight homes with photovoltaic panels to maximise energy efficiency.

Just a quick post to reiterate what's been said before about this development - that it's really not very good. Reminds me of the wee houses round Calton off London Road. It would've been better finding other uses for this land - maybe allotments, or a park, or 5 aside pitches, or anything.
Would have also hoped maybe they'd have created a cycle route to take cyclists off Eglington street (i notice there an existing bridge over the railway line) but it seems they haven't even bothered doing this.
