Craigcrook Castle care home scheme hits planning
May 23 2017
Inglis and Carr have drafted plans for construction of a new care home within the grounds of Craigcrook Castle, Edinburgh, through removal of unsympathetic later additions and a ruined stables block. This will allow creation of a well-positioned care home on the edge of Corstorphine Hill Nature Reserve while allowing the main body of the castle to be simultaneously converted into a five-bedroom private house complete with its own gym, cinema room, games room and wine cellar.
In their design statement the architects said: “The building has been designed using traditional forms but with clean, simple lines and modern detailing to ensure that it sits comfortably in relation to Craigcrook Castle. With its use of natural stone on the principal elevations the new structure is expected to have a timeless quality which will age gracefully. Internally the facilities on offer will be state-of-the-art with a high standard of comfort and care.”
Existing stone walls will be retained and restored as part of this package of works with new boundary walls also erected using reclaimed stone. Courtyard and garden areas will be given a similar makeover with a water feature and gazebo also planned.
The structure has been designed for swift assembly using volumetric modules such as panellised wall components and pre-manufactured roof components
