McCarthy & Stone back Cults retirement living scheme
January 30 2017
Specialist retirement housing provider McCarthy & Stone and the Planning Bureau have filed plans for 21 sheltered apartments at Cults, Aberdeen, on the site of an existing house.External walls will be faced in a mix of grey cast stone and off white render the home will be set within their own mature grounds with ready access to local amenities.
In their design statement McCarthy & Stone wrote: “The main elevations of the proposed building intentionally adopt an asymmetrical form and appearance. The mass of the building steps down in height and the stepped façades promote the concept of a domestic architectural aesthetic.
“The use of a mixed, yet restricted, material palette further emphasises the domestic nature of the development. Areas of granite coloured cast stone and off-white render create depth, variation and interest across the elevations - while metal clad dormers add a contemporary tone.”
McCarthy & Stone are currently progressing a similar scheme in Dundee.
