June 17 2008
The Building Research Establishment have announced that they are to construct a "Scottish innovation park" on the site of the former Ravenscraig Steelworks in Motherwell.
BRE have invited the trade to submit proposals for four demonstrator homes to be built at the Ravenscraig site, which are expected to develop technologies such as wind turbines, rainwater harvesting, heat recovery systems, and recycled waste timber. Investment is expected to exceed £ 2 million.
Work is already under way on the £200m first phase of Ravenscraig, with a £30m regional sports facility, a £70m campus for Motherwell College, and 850 new houses.
