Replacement Carntyne Primary School proposed
January 5 2017
Glasgow City Council is proposing to build a new Carntyne Primary within the grounds of the existing school at Redford Street within the city’s east end.Designs drawn up by Holmes Miller call for the creation of a new school and community facility integrated within an established residential area, pending the partial demolition and reconfiguration of the existing facility.
The resulting linear stack of classrooms will be faced with areas of curtain wall glazing and fibre cement panels separated by vertical brick piers.
In their design statement the architects observed: “Careful attention to brickwork detailing adds interest and craftsmanship to the facades, and is used to highlight building entrances and points of interface. The brickwork wraps around the gable elevations and continues along the North façade of the building.”
Playground spaces will be situated to the north on the footprint of the existing school which will be fully cleared post-completion.

Quite an intimidating building for a wee person. Would prefer to see some modulation in scale at the entrance.
