Blawarthill Hospital homes go in for planning
Grant Murray Architects have drawn up plans to build 15 new homes at the former >Blawarthill Hospital, Knightswood, the site of which is to be turned into a care home by Glasgow City Council.

Comprising bungalows and two storey cottage flats for Yoker Housing Association the scheme will follow the complete demolition of the former hospital, save for the C-listed original building, and have been designed to marry with the planned care home.

In a statement the architects said: “Massing is restricted to terraced single storey bungalows being the prevailing house type to meet the Associations current demand for single bedroom accommodation. The exception to this is the two storey blocks which ‘bookend’ the newbuild site.”

Faced in red brick to tie-in with the ashlar sandstone of the retained hospital which is further referenced by dormer entrance porches.

Why not go the whole hog and properly reference the existing building with some black and white timber and thrupenny bit bay windows?
The scheme as it stands is neither one thing or the other.
