Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association have brought forward plans to deliver 17 affordable flats on the site of a former bus garage in Portree, Skye.

The park Road site sits to the west of the village centre and will offer a mix of one and two bedroom flats within a render and blue/grey Cedral weather boarded block.

Explaining the design and appearance of the block GJ Johnston building consultants wrote: “The design includes measures to temper its apparent scale, give interest and reflect some features of nearby buildings such as the use of distinctive gables, recessed sections and fenestration with a vertical emphasis.

“The use of vertical cladding and balconies with railings are also designed to give more vertical emphasis to the north west and south east elevations and complement its form. All will help make a positive contribution to enhancing the architectural and visual quality of its location and to define and create an attractive and effective streetscape.”

A corrugated metal garage will be demolished to make way for the proposal.
