Playful Brodie Castle plan hits the ground running
November 11 2016
Hoskins Architects working in collaboration with landscape architects erz have designed a £2.8m ‘Garden of Playfulness’ to sit within the grounds of Brodie Castle. Morayshire.Commissioned by the National Trust for Scotland the work will see the Forres stronghold, ancestral home of the Brodie family, transformed into a key tourist attraction through construction of a visitor pavilion and gateway to the wider estate and gardens.
Offering retail, a restaurant and indoor play areas the centre will operate throughout the year with capacity to host special events and exhibitions.
The National Trust for Scotland’s chief executive, Simon Skinner remarked: “We are creating nothing less than one of Scotland’s most significant heritage attractions in the heart of Morayshire. We expect Brodie Castle and its Garden of Playfulness to be a great boost for the local economy, attracting many more visitors and offering the regional community a wonderful place to enjoy on their doorstep.”
Should all go according to plan the new visitor centre will open its doors next year.

NS will struggle to compete with the cafe at Brodie Country Fare on the Main Road outside Brodie.

"offering retail, a restaurant and indoor play areas the centre "
There is already a retail and restaurant on the main road and a play area at the side of the castle. Are the NTFS really going to spend money to compete with what is already very good and established?

The existing cafe at Brodie Castle is excellent and more than a match for the facility on the main road.
