Reiach and Hall win Dundee competition
July 6 2006
Reiach and Hall has won the competition to design Dundee Council’s new £20 million offices on North Lindsay Street at the back of the Overgate Centre. Reiach and Hall’s scheme was chosen from a shortlist that consisted of gm+ad and RMJM. The new office building will sit behind the listed façade of a former DC Thompson printworks; the original double-height printing hall will become an open arcade, providing a new public space for the city. A new glazed building steps up behind the arcade while the ‘servant spaces’, the stairs, lifts, toilets and service risers, are located along the rear elevation. The proposal involves the creation of a new civic square and the reduction of surface car parking by building a decked car park. The new offices will replace the council’s current offices building, Tayside House, which will be demolished as part of Dundee’s Central Waterfront Development.Read previous: Council to sell off some of the EDI’s best assets in order to cover £33 million budget deficit
