Gorbals Demolition Goes With A Bang
June 2 2008
The Stirlingfauld Place tower blocks in the heart of Glasgow finally bit the dust on Sunday, coming down in preparation GHA's £350m initiative.
Glasgow Housing Association and Glasgow City Council will construct new cityscape communities with 1725 homes which, they say, will be in a similar vein to the prestigious and architecturally impressive Park Circus area in the west end of Glasgow.
"The demolition is a positive step for the area and marks the beginning of a new era - not only for our tenants but for the wider community. It is a very exciting time for us and we are really looking forward to playing our part in the regeneration that is to come," said Kirsty Fotheringham, community housing manager of New Gorbals Housing Association.
Stirlingfauld Place took three years to build at a cost of £1.8m. They were demolished for £1m, creating 50,000 tonnes of rubble to be recycled.
