West Dunbartonshire Council is inviting interested parties to comment on proposals to revitalise the Dumbarton’s waterfront with construction of a 1,100m walkway connecting the town centre to Dumbarton Rock. The £2.5m footpath and cycle track will connect planned new housing and commercial developments and is one of four major regeneration schemes to be awarded £7m in council funding; Namely improved public realm at Glasgow Road, Clydebank; regeneration at Bowling Basin and creation of two public squares in Balloch.
Councillor David McBride, depute convener of infrastructure, regeneration and economic development, said: “This proposed walkway is a great way to regenerate the heart of Dumbarton and develop the land into a major tourist attraction which will be appreciated by residents and visitors to the area.”
