Outline proposals emerge for 450 Longniddry homes
June 16 2016
Socially Conscious Capital has set out its intent to build 450 homes on the site of Longniddry Farm in accordance with East Lothian Council’s draft local development plan.Planning permission in principle is being sought by Taylor Architecture & Urbanisim for a significant extension of the existing village, together with associated landscaping and engineering work alongside conversion of Longniddry Farm to commercial use.
Rock Feilding from Socially Conscious Capital said: “In addition to the much-needed new housing, we wanted to make sure that there will also be tangible benefits for the existing residents of Longniddry, such as employment opportunities and community facilities, and that these are fully integrated with the existing village.
“With its close proximity to the railway station, this makes our development one of the most sustainable in East Lothian, and was one of the key reasons the site has been included in the council’s Draft Proposed Local Development Plan."
Should outline permission be forthcoming development partners will be appointed to prepare detailed proposals in accordance with the overall master plan, with construction set for the end of 2017.
The development is being modelled on the New Urbanist Knockroon development by the Prince's Foundation

Ok, it's at outline stage but the proximity to transport and other amenities and the suggestions re the housing quality make this look very promising. Now, let's hope it doesn't get dumbed down through standard house builder product.

This is a sensible place to develop. Hopefully 'Socially Conscious Capital' isn't just a cynical PR presentation. The proof will be in the pudding.
