Edinburgh College of Art set for £14m makeover
Kier Construction has been appointed to deliver a £14m makeover of Edinburgh College of Art which will see 12,000sq/m of space at its A-listed main building at Lauriston Place repaired and renovated to designs by LDN Architects.

Split into two phases to ensure continuous operation of the college the first phase works will begin later this month for completion by September 2017 and will include a general upgrade of the building fabric and internal systems.

Work will also take place to return to use a major space in the west side of the main building with state of the art audio and visual facilities.

The college is working to a decade long master plan which will see it consolidate its presence around the Lauriston Place campus and George Square both of which are being lined up for further expansion.

Great news. Although, as with other areas in Edinburgh and elsewhere, the courtyard and surrounds, under the tree for example, could do with some benches; there's not enough benches in Edinburgh it's very frustrating to have loads on Princes St. (quite rightly) but such a small number in other areas. Somewhere to sit in a nice location, during a sunny day is something that obviously isn't thought about by the council.
