Transport Scotland has marked the installation of the largest single span bridge to be built as part of a £500m package of improvements to M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project.Engineers carefully winched into place nine 2,000 tonne beams each stretching to 77m in a delicate operation over the North Calder Water, Bellshill.
Transport Minister Humza Yousaf commented: "Once complete, The M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project will significantly reduce congestion across the central Scotland motorway network, and improve travel time reliability on the main route between Glasgow and Edinburgh.”
Drone footage of the nine day installation illustrated the scale of the challenge work, which is expected to slash rush hour travel times between Glasgow and Edinburgh by 20 minutes.
